The Quiet Power of Thoughtful Voices

The Good vs. The Slick: Who Really Deserves Your Attention?

We live in a world where we pay too much attention to the most confident voices and far too little to the most thoughtful ones. It’s easy to confuse volume with strength, but loud ≠ strong and quiet ≠ weak.

Yet, there remains a persistent bias: we tend to gravitate toward charisma over depth. I’ve often referred to this phenomenon as the “Good vs. Slick.”

Charismatic individuals — the “slick” ones — naturally draw attention, especially from a distance. Their confidence captivates. They seem polished, smooth, and impressive. But for those who work closely with them? The allure often fades. Their charm, while magnetic at first, may not hold up under scrutiny.

On the other hand, the quiet, thoughtful people — the “good” — often go unnoticed, especially by those who don’t know them well. They aren’t flashy or loud, so they don’t always stand out. But spend time working with them, and you’ll discover something rare. Their depth, reliability, and integrity inspire loyalty. Those who know them best are willing to go through walls for them.
